You know, I have said some pretty crummy things about the Media spreading hate and fear to get ratings. But then I started getting into the Media Certificate program on Alison. I read the story of a girl who had stolen a phone accidentally left in an Uber, and the owner was not able to get it back, even after confronting the girl’s family. But the fight went viral as she called out to the Internet for help, and suddenly she had a global army of investigators moved to action by her story. The woman got her phone back, and the thief was punished as only the Internet can. I’m beginning to see that Media and Internet Citizenry, those who live online, never being more than an arm’s length from some sort of connected device, are a brand new and functioning layer of the Justice System. This reminds me of “The Declaration of Independence of Cyberspace” by John Perry Barlow in 1996. He was right. This is our Governance, and the world has been blanketed in Bit Bearing Media.
